I’ve been under the weather for two days so I didn’t do a
blog yesterday and I’m finally getting to it this evening. Yahoo! Donald Trump
is our new president. I sincerely hope that he follows through with even a
small portion of his campaign promises. If he builds a border fence and can get
at least two Constitutional judges on the Supreme Court we have a chance to
slow the steady roll towards Third World socialism. The fence will help our national
security, the economy including jobs for Americans, slow the influx of
terrorism and can very well help our pathetic public school system. The
appointment of conservative leaning judges will prevent lower court liberal
activist judges from advancing their socialist agenda. Accomplishing those two
things alone will make his presidency a success in my humble opinion.
Trump made a lot of bold promises that I am afraid he may
not be able to keep. I hope that he keeps his promise to dismantle Obamacare
because our healthcare system can easily revert back to an open market private
system. If the consumer is allowed to pick the mainstays of an insurance policy
it will lower the policy cost. I am a 65-year-old man with a 55-year-old wife;
we do not need maternity insurance. Portability, meaning the consumer can take an
insurance policy with them from state to state rather than being held up at the
state line. Being able to keep that policy for many years will also address the concerns about pre-existing conditions. Being able to competitively shop for cost and options without being
limited to one or two insurance companies in your state would be a definite
cost savings.
Trump also promised to put a moratorium on refugees coming
to the US from countries that are in the midst of radical Islamic Jihad. He was
called a radical, racist, bigot, and every other name the liberals could hang
on him. I called him smart. What is radical about stopping a failing refugee system
until we can properly vet the people we let in? There is no way to check on the
backgrounds, whether personal or criminal, of individuals that are coming from
war-torn areas of the Middle East. Why would we automatically allow them in?
Those that criticize Trump for wanting to get a handle on the situation are
anti-American and have no qualms about allowing terrorists into our midst.
NAFTA was presented to the people years ago as an American
job creator. We now know that it is a colossal American job killer. I read that
this year is the 24th consecutive year that we have had a trade
deficit with Mexico. It seems to me we’re being double-dipped here. They sell
us more goods than they buy from us which moves US dollars to Mexico. They come
across our borders and take our American jobs and send more US dollars to
Mexico. Trump promises to put a halt to the Transpacific Partnership (TPP)
which is another American job killing trade program. Another idea he has that I
like is to put an additional tariff on goods being sold back into the United
States by US companies that have moved outside our borders. That would be Ford,
General Motors, Carrier Air-Conditioning and many others. That may or may not be
the right thing to do. The one part of that that bothers me is the fact that
those American companies had to move out of the US in an effort to stay viable
in the sales market by ditching daunting US Federal regulations and taxes. The
other thing that bothers me about that is that they have had to go outside our
borders in order to avoid exorbitant union wages and benefits.
I’m not going to spend a lot of time talking about Trump’s
promises because he has no record of keeping them. Don’t get me wrong, that is
a good thing. Not being a career politician is a giant gold star next to his
name in my opinion. What we have to do now is wait and see. After having sat
through two elections and watching Obama being anointed gave me pause last
night and I will admit a considerable amount of anxiety with the vision of Hillary
Clinton being our next president. I still cannot comprehend how half of the
voting population of the United States of America could even consider a
colossal reprobate like Hillary Clinton for President of the United States. The
sad part all of this is the fact that neither Hillary nor Obama will ever go
away. Those two with their constituents and a butt-kissing media and a
considerable number of establishment Republicans are going to make Trump’s
presidency as hard as they possibly can. He has proven over the last 18 months
that he is very thick-skinned and I have little doubt that he will be able to
stand up to their harping. They will fight him every step of the way and we can
only hope that he is still able to push forward with as much of his newly
developed policies as possible.
God Bless America!!!
