And now there are 5.

Today I’m going to do something that I’ve been meaning to do for quite a long time but there was always something more important to take issue with at the time. I will list what I consider to be important issues and assign a candidate who I consider the reasonable standard bearer for each of those issues. Keep in mind that these issues are not exclusive to the individual named. There are other candidates who may be equally or nearly as strong on the respective issues. I wanted to choose an issue in order to give credit to as many of the original contenders as I could. On top of that, the name assigned to that issue may very well be the only redeeming quality of that particular candidate. Also, a small number of candidates rated reasonably high on several issues. Do not use this list in an attempt to claim I am supporting any candidate specifically. I’m merely trying to be inclusive and give a small amount of credit where credit is due. If you are looking for my usual sarcasm it will be more evident later on in this writing. For now I will have a short personal observation for each issue and name.

Abortion -          Mike Huckabee -          not ashamed to call abortion what it is: murder.

Drug policy -      Lindsey Graham -        about the only conservative issue he supported.

Education -        Bobby Jindal -               as Governor of Louisiana he fought Common Core.

Environment -  Ted Cruz -                       not bashful about exposing the climate control hoaxes.

Gun rights -       Rand Paul -                    a libertarian background required a staunch gun rights stand.

Healthcare -      Carly Fiorina -                big opponent of the economy-killing aspects of Obamacare.

Immigration -    Donald Trump -             the long overdue discussion about illegal immigration.

Gay marriage  - Rick Santorum -             believes marriage is between one man and one woman.

Social Security - Ben Carson -                 doesn’t hesitate to point that Social Security is broke.

Federal taxing  - Ben Carson -                  points out the blatant unfairness of our taxing system.

Foreign policy  -  Rand Paul -                   not afraid to question worthless status quo policies.

This segment will cover some candidates’ personal stances that I may or may not endorse. To start out with I would like to give special credit to Ted Cruz and Donald Trump for their unwavering willingness to fight the Washington Establishment in general and its illegal immigration/refugee policies specifically. I will also give kudos to Ted Cruz for being one of the few Tea Party additions to the Washington Beltway elites who has not reneged on his campaign promises. He has remained true to his Christian and Conservative base. I would like to compliment Carly Fiorina on her feistyness and her undaunted stance against Hillary’s B. S. campaign machine. She has also stood up nicely to the GOP “good old boys”. She has proven to have bigger man parts than most of those she shares the debate stage with. I’d like to give credit to Ben Carson for his intelligence and also to his mother for having the stamina to withstand the obstacles to raising a successful son in the harsh environment she dealt with. Ben Carson and his mother are living proof that the American Dream is attainable by anyone in any circumstances who has the will to succeed. Scott Walker is one of a handful of governors who have faced down union bullies and beat them at their own game. Wisconsin residents are the benefactors of his conservative values. Rick Perry didn’t do much for Texas but he didn’t hurt Texas either. The residents of the state of Virginia are undoubtedly wishing they had Jim Gilmore back after enduring two years of Terry McAuliffe. Gilmore opposed the ridiculous notion of legislating special rights and privileges for the small homosexual community in United States. John Kasich seems to be a nice guy. Pataki, Bush, and Christie left me with “crickets chirping” when I tried to come up with any personal attributes of theirs that I liked. Did I mention that Rubio was good-looking?

We are now down to five candidates: Trump, Cruz, Rubio, Carson, and Kasich. The only reason I can come up with for the last two to stay in the campaign limelight is an attempt to remain relevant when it comes time to pick a running mate. All 30 plus of the original GOP presidential contenders are potential vice presidential candidates with the exception of Trump and probably Cruz. The establishment does not want either of them anywhere near the White House in any capacity. If Trump is the nominee none of the “big name” contenders will be considered viable as a running mate. He may possibly go into the lower tier of candidates but my gut tells me Trump will go rogue and pick someone who has never stood in the shadow of the Washington capital building. At this point I’m not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing. Sometime in the next few days I will do a more in-depth review of several issues that true Conservatives hold near and dear to their hearts and how each of the five remaining candidates stack up against each other on each of those issues.

I’ve mentioned this in past writings but it is worth repeating: as angry as Trump and Cruz supporters are at the Republican establishment it will be political suicide if both of them, as front runners, are bypassed at the September GOP convention. I’ve also mentioned that I thought Bush would be the establishment darling and be magically placed in the nominee position. The Bush campaign spent in excess of $100 million of other people’s money and is left with no chance of political repayment. I'm pretty sure the establishment donors are done throwing money down that hole. In compliance with the standards established under political equivocation I am not going to flip-flop my position I am going to evolve in my position. Based on the Beltway rumblings and political pundit’s opinions I will now contend that the brokered convention will anoint Rubio as the GOP nominee and not Bush. It will be done in direct opposition to the GOP caucus and primary voters. In my humble opinion that simply proves once again that the Republican establishment/donors don’t give a rat’s rear end about the will of their constituents. It is also a giant red flag indicator that the GOP power-brokers have finally abandoned most conservative ideologies and there is no longer any room for conservatism in their political platform. The maintenance of political power, the purchase of votes and a blatant disregard for the welfare of those same voters are all vintage principles of the liberal/socialist ideology and have now become the new normal in the GOP establishment. These are sad days for the United States of America.

One last thought before I close. This is totally off-topic but I feel the need to say it again. Obama and the liberal power structure in Washington claim it is Obama's constitutional duty to appoint a Supreme Court Justice. Speaker of the House McConnell has reiterated that he will not accept an Obama nomination for Antonin Scalia’s vacancy on the Supreme Court for any nominee under any circumstances. In an attempt to show that Republicans will only block a liberal nominee and not a moderate or a Conservative, Obama has leaked the name Brian Sandoval, the moderate governor of Nevada, as someone he might put forth. First of all, I’m offended that Obama thinks the Republican leadership is that stupid. They aren’t, are they? It’s a political trap! Don’t fall for it! Secondly, Sandoval was recommended by none other than “dirty” Harry Reid which automatically means there’s something inherently wrong with the man. I would not accept a Harry Reid recommendation for a place to eat much less a Supreme Court Justice. Lastly, Obama, Reid, Schumer, Biden, and a few other liberals have emphatically stated in the past that in an election year a sitting president should not be allowed to present a nominee for the United States Supreme Court. Of course each time these hypocritical liberals spewed their venom the sitting president was Republican, go figure! I can’t stress enough how critical this one appointment is to the future of America. An Obama appointee to the US Supreme Court will be the proverbial “last nail” in America’s coffin.

God Bless America!!!
